Water is essential for life. No living being on planet Earth can survive without it. It is a prerequisite for human health and well-being as well as for the preservation of the environment. Many people cannot imagine a school without drinking fountains, flush toilets, or sinks. Unfortunately, lack of water and sanitation is common in most classrooms throughout sub-Saharan Africa and much of the world. Children’s education suffers greatly from a lack of safe water and sanitation on school premises. Too often students use valuable class time to fetch water long distances from school. Frequently, these school children are collecting unsafe water from contaminated sources for drinking. Without access to water, education is almost impossible. Dirty water leads to a cycle of disease, missed school days, and high dropout rates – especially for girls.

The Kenyan government provides water to some schools, but the water supply is often irregular and pipes frequently burst. Most city pipes work, approximately 1-2 times per week. Adopt a water tank will install water tanks to store the water so that schools have a reliable water supply at all times. We will also ensure the tanks are fitted to the roofs to collect much needed rain water which is wasted due to lack of storage- Water Tanks.
Some of the many benefits of access to clean water…
- It dramatically improves health, keeping students in class
- Eliminates time wasted fetching dirty water Enables proper sanitation – particularly important for girls
- Improves school facilities through construction – concrete requires lots of water
- Removes huge financial burdens on schools who often purchase water for basic needs
- The girl child will not be forced to miss education due to the fact that she is at the river fetching water
